Out of all the fiesty Sunfire heroines, Caroline was always my favorite. None of the girls were ever really shrinking violets, but Caroline takes the cake for sheer pluck. When her brothers declare their intention to go West during the Gold Rush, Caroline begs to be taken along. Her brothers refuse and Caroline does the only thing a self respecting tomboy would do. She whacks off her hair, dresses in her brothers' castoffs, and takes off after them. Unfortunately Caroline seems to always be just a few steps behind her brothers, so she takes an offer to ride west with the unsuspecting Dreamy Dan.

Most Sunfire romances have a heroine strung between two male interests, but there is just so much going on in this one that there's only room for one! There's an adorable dog, a young bully, a sweet friend, cowboys and Indians, and a lot of hardship on the trail west. Even though Caroline is dressed as a boy for most of the book, her femininity and strength show through. A romance with a heroine dressed as a boy can be a bit hard to pull off, when would the hero fall for her? But this one was done really well, and the ending is great!

I used to check this book out from my local library all the time when I was younger, and it was one of the first books I bought with my account waaaay back in 2002. I would definitely recommend snatching this romance up if you find it in a thrift store or online. You won't regret it!
Caroline is my favorite from the Sunfire series that I got a chance to read. I haven't read it in 15 years but I remembered the cover and the story after only reading it once. I remain today an avid Historical Romance reader. But what I loved about Caroline as well as other Sunfires is they teach about differant historical events in America's growth.
Great books - I still have all of them from when I was a teenager (20+ years ago). Wish they would reprint these - I think that kids today would enjoy them just as much as I did when I was younger. I still pull them out from time to time and read through them again. Easy reads with a little history thrown in.
especially if you want to catch a part of the California Gold Rush without a chaperone. Caroline is a highly-spirited and determined lady who will get to California to find her brothers even if it means cutting off her long golden hair and masquerading as a boy. This was no easy task while crossing the plains of the west. If you liked DISNEY'S MULAN- this will probably be a great choice!) This was one of my favorite books as a teen. Sunfire books are romantic, but very safe for young readers. Each book gives great details and insights about exciting times in history. This author kept you guessing up until the end as to which lucky young man would win Caroline's heart. Adventure, romance, history, twists, narrowly escaping danger- what more can you ask for? The sunfire books are great, Caroline being one of my favorite....if you can get your hands on one - DO IT.
This was one of my favorite books as a teen. It was fun to read it again. Good, clean romance!
Awesome! Got this for a friend as a 'walk down memory lane'. We used to read ALL of these as pre-teens. Hilarious. Though I will say, they do hold up.
