Still Missing Chevy Stevens Books
This book review, as well as many more, can also be found on my blog, The Baking Bookworm. My Thoughts: I had heard great reviews of this book from one of my oldest friends (who has very similar book tastes to my own) as well as my Fairy Bookmother. After reading it I was surprised to learn that this was the author's debut novel. A huge undertaking for a first timer but done with wonderful execution and feeling.
It was also one of my possible choices for my book club selection. While I loved this book I think that the raw and brutal nature of the book would have been too much for my book club.
This is one of those books that you'll find hard to put down. At times I felt like I was reading with one hand in front of my eyes because I wanted to know what happened ... but at the same time I didn't want to read about the hell Annie went through. Does that make any sense?
From the write up on the book jacket the reader is prepared that it isn't going to be a feel good kind of book so the abuse that is inflicted on Annie isn't a surprise. But it is truly heartbreaking to see what Annie endures while held against her will in that small mountain cabin and it's equally disturbing to see how that abuse affects her once she's freed. We see Annie struggle with her newfound fame and even more importantly how she learns to live and survive after the abuse.
The author has a wonderful understanding and ability to voice Annie's inner thoughts which makes Annie feel real and believable. You know that the horror and mental abuse Annie suffered through aren't going to be overcome quickly or by the end of the book but will be part of Annie for the rest of her life.
This story is filled with twists and turns that make the reader keep guessing who is behind Annie's kidnapping until the very end. The story is raw and vivid and shows the underbelly of humanity, and sadly, what some people are capable of doing to others.
My Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Still Missing Chevy Stevens Books Reviews
Still Missing by Chevy Stevens is a 384 page psychological masterpiece published by St. Martin's Press in 2014 and is told from the MC's POV as she tells the story to her shrink. Abducted from an open house, Annie is held hostage for a year by "The Freak" who terrorized her, beat her, put her on a pee schedule and denied her food and light for the biggest part of her captivity. Coming to terms with her new phobias and fears, while uncovering the mystery of why this was done to her, leads Annie down a startling emotional path all the while trying to reintegrate herself into her life "before." Without revealing too much, all I can say is if Annie wasn't on the verge of destruction during and immediately after her destruction, finding who was responsible for the mess that has become her life should have destroyed her. I will admit I didn't care for Annie in the beginning, but as I continued to read, I became more and more engrossed in her story. Told in such a smart fashion, seeing her struggles through her eyes, hearing about it in her words drew me in so that I refused to put this book down until I read the last page. Another 5 star read!
I was looking and looking for an author of mystery/suspense who could truly keep me interested, and this author is absolutely riveting. What I love about her writing is two-fold. She is a fantastic storyteller, and she is just superb with her research. Not only can I not stop reading because of her ability to keep you involved with the story line but also you are going to learn so very much as each chapter unfolds. If you give Still Missing a chance, you will see for yourself. I do not know the author, have never met her, and this is completely unsolicited, but I can't wait to finish this book to plow into her other offerings. You won't regret your investment in time and a few bucks. Ms. Stevens is brilliant imo.
This was a hard book to put down with a good plot and an ending you do not predict. I would recommend this book to women (or men) who like psychological thrillers who have a day or two to read this because it is hard to put down. It keeps you guessing all the way through to the very end. I would not recommend it to women who have been seriously traumatized. A reminder that women in this day and age must always be careful of their surroundings, who they trust, and how to defend themselves. No matter what, Don't allow oneself to be taken from point A to point B, even if there is a gun at your back. Psychos are everywhere, and sometimes in your own family.
I don't typically read this type of book. I stick with Southern Lit/Romance type books. I read Chevy Stevens "Those Girls" on a whim and enjoyed it so I went with Still Missing to check out another piece of Chevy's work. This book had me hooked. I absolutely had to keep reading to find out what happened next. I was rooting for Annie the entire book. I did not see the shocker at the end of the book coming! I read it fairly quickly over 3 days. I will never not think of this book while shaving my legs! I will continue to read books by this author.
