Before I say anything about the book, you'll need to know that my husband came home from war with PTSD. He suffered in silence for 6 years before he attempted suicide. Jesus saved him and took him on a journey of healing over two years culminating in complete miraculous healing. I feel in some way that Becky Wade has written a part of our story.

I've read the previous books in the series and I've been slightly apprehensive about the kind of woman that would love Jake. I know it takes a certain kind of woman that can see through the exterior to the beautiful person within, because to my altered husband I was that kind of woman. Lyndie and Jake are great together. I love that the story didn't have Jake suddenly become 'all better' because of his relationship with Lyndie. I'm sick of that kind of ending with a brooding hero. It's great seeing God as the Hope and the Hero of this story. He's the Hope and the Hero of my husband's and my story.

Becky did a fantastic job in writing what is a very real and relevant journey for many people across the globe.

A Love Like Ours Porter Family Novels Becky Wade 9780764211096 Books Reviews

Becky Wade has once again crafted a fantastic novel, on so many levels! I loved this one! Her characters are real and seem to come to life right off the page. Their hopes, dreams, struggles are all fleshed out and easy to believe. The relationship dynamics, not only between our main characters, but also that of the secondary characters, are real and heartfelt. I found not only Jake (Mr. Tall, Dark and Brooding) and Lyndie's story to be absolutely wonderful but also enjoyed the added bonus of Amber and Will's story too!

A Love Like Ours, will lure you in and hook you. I so enjoyed the moments within its' pages and really was not ready to bid it farewell. Be prepared to step into a story filled with heart, hope, sweetness, love, hurt, struggles and faith. I chuckled some, I cried some, I was swept away and I came away from this novel not only with a romantic sigh but with a happy satisfaction of a story well done!

Wade has a gift, one I look forward to enjoying again (I hope) in the not too distant future! Fantastic!

Content Clean Read Romance, Christian (not pushy but heartfelt), Mild kissing
I found this book to be very relevant in today's world. So many soldiers are battling PTSD, including the husband of a dear friend of mine. This book was instrumental in opening my eyes to what he is going through, as well as what my friend is going through in trying to be supportive and help him heal. Becky leads Jake through his struggle with God and with allowing people to get close to him in a truly tender story. The parallels between Lyndie working with Silver Leaf and Jake helped solidify her compassion, patience, and gentleness. I would definitely recommend this book. Don't let the heavy subject matter dissuade you as in true Becky Wade fashion there are also moments of humor as well.
I have been looking forward to this third installment in the Porter Family series pretty much since I closed Meant to Be Mine. It felt like forever, and I was so excited to finally get my hands on it! Each of the books in this series and their characters are so incredibly unique and distinct. I love that we get the same authentic and relatable characterization, complex, emotional plots, and overall just quality writing with such a diverse group of characters.

That being said, this book is quite a gear shift from Meant to Be Mine. Which it really needed to be. It was a good thing, just a much different story. I think what I loved about this book was also part of what bothered me about it, ironically. This is not your typical love story by a long shot. Jake Porter is damaged. And not in the romance novel, wanna be bad boy way. Like seriously messed up. Lyndie sacrifices and gives absolutely all of herself to Jake and this relationship to try to make sure that he can heal. It’s a beautiful, emotional, redemptive story.

So what’s the problem? Well, I gave it four stars, so there really isn’t much of one. At the end I just found myself wishing we’d gotten to understand Jake a little bit better. And I really wanted at least a little bit more for Lyndie. On the one hand I think the way she unconditionally loves and supports Jake is amazing and the perfect picture of what true love should be. In a real relationship there are sacrifices and things are not always fair, but it’s worth it. On the other hand, she ends up having to give up, or at least put on hold, one of her dreams because of it. And by the end of the book I was just hoping that Jake would have gotten to a place where he could face that and let it go so that Lyndie would be able to realize her dream. I’m almost positive we’ll see that in a future book though. Here’s hoping.

I really enjoyed revisiting the entire cast of characters. I love that we get to see so much of them and really find out what’s going on in their lives now. They’re not just mentioned in passing. I loved seeing Amber again and catching up on her life. I’m glad it looks like she’ll get her happy ending as well. I’m so intrigued by Dru. I cannot wait for her story!!

*I received an ARC of this title from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
